Jeff Stern is a filmmaker and teacher who lives in Portsmouth, NH. He earned his MFA in film production from Boston University. His short films, The Morning of Everything (2014), My Dark Side and My Light Side Meet In A Bar To Discuss The New Star Wars Movie (2016), This Fog (2021), and Dottie (2024) have played at numerous national film festivals, including the Ashland, Nantucket, Woods Hole, New Hampshire and Monadnock film fests (among others).

Jeff is a Distinguished Lecturer in Bentley University’s Film and Media Studies program. He is also the Director of the Film and Media Studies Lab. He teaches courses on video production, directing, and American independent film.

In 2014, Jeff began challenging his students and his community to go on 48 hour “digital fasts” in which they give up all devices and screens for a weekend. (Scary, right?) He has spoken at TEDx and Creative Mornings on this subject. You can watch his talks here.

If you live in the Portsmouth, NH area, you might also know Jeff from Beat Night, where he regularly performs. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Portsmouth Public Library.
